THE BEST BOOK I READ IN 2011

On December 31, 2010, who among us knew that 2011 would be the year that:

1. The U.S. Government finally hunted down and killed Osama bin Laden and officially ended combat operations in Iraq.
2. Legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno would be brought down by a sex scandal.
3. Donald Trump was for even a brief moment, considered a serious candidate for president
4. A black man would lead polls in the Republican presidential race.
5. A woman (Pippa Middleton) would become famous just for carrying her sister’s wedding dress train into a church.
6. Ryan Seacrest would be considered as the replacement for Today show anchor Matt Lauer.
7. BET would put on a good show (The Game).
8. Al Davis would actually die (technically, he’d been dead for years).
9. The Dallas Mavericks would finally win the NBA title.
10. Oprah’s media empire appeared to weaken and her bestest friend Gail would take a job somewhere else (CBS).
11. Both Casey Anthony and Amanda Know would get away with murder. Allegedly.
12. The world’s least talented “celebrities” ever would be three sisters named Kardashian, one of who rose to fame (and considerable fortune) on the back of a home-filmed sex tape with her black then-boyfriend.
13. The Speaker of the House of Representatives wouldn’t attend a public service honoring a fellow representative who had been shot by a deranged gunman while meeting with her constituents and that same Speaker would tell the POTUS, “Pick another night for your speech to America”, somebody who calls herself Lady Gaga would be one of music’s biggest stars and last but not least, the Clippers would get a player who actually wants to be on the team.

Today, as one year ends and another begins, I want to say thank you to my family and friends who blessed me with unconditional love and support throughout 2011. Tomorrow, I start a new year just two semesters away from earning a college degree and there’s a real hope of success with one or more of my writing endeavors.

In 2012, I pledge to be a better, healthier and more spiritual person, a better son, brother and friend. I pledge to live by the principles my late mother and grandparents instilled in me from birth. I pledge to be wiser financially and live by  The Black Enterprise Wealth for Life Principles. I pledge to do better in school and in my personal relationships. I pledge to be more loving and patient. I pledge to give more than I receive.

And last but not least, I pledge to do everything I can to ensure the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama as President of the United States.
