“What we’re having here are debates about first principles. A lot of people think he’s trying to transform the country in a liberal direction in the way that Ronald Reagan did in a conservative direction. This is not the normal push and pull of politics. It gets down to the purpose and meaning of America.” – Pete Wehner, a former top official in the George W. Bush administration and a social conservative thinker, describing the resistance to Obama as “beyond politics.”

“On Nov. 3 … there will be in Washington, D.C., a Democratic majority in the House and a Democratic majority in the Senate. That will be the case. If it weren’t illegal, I’d make book on it.” – Vice-President Joe Biden in a speech Friday to the Democratic National Committee.

“The president didn’t send me over here to seek a graceful exit.” – General David Petraeus, commander of American and NATO forces in Afghanistan.

“I do not believe President Obama’s religion has any impact on the need for jobs in Ohio’s 13th district. According to the White House, our president is a Christian and I have no reason to believe otherwise.” – Ohio GOP congressional candidate Tom Ganley.

“Well, I would say the difference between last year’s vacation and this year’s is that since his vacation, the automotive industry is back on its feet, health care reform has passed, and the economy is now moving in a different direction than it was moving in before. But his goals for his time here are the same.” – WH deputy press secretary Bill Burton on Friday when asked by a reporter if there Is any sort of different aim for this presidential vacation in comparison to last year’s.

“They weren’t trading assets. There was no quid pro quo, to trade residential property for the Dodgers. That would have been absurd. No one would have ever done that.”- Dennis Wasser, attorney for Jamie McCourt who’s locked in a bitter divorce battle with her estranged husband Frank for ownership of, among other assets, the Los Angeles Dodgers. And that my friends, is the very essence of this dispute: if the judge believes that Jamie McCourt, or anyone else with the sense God gave a seedless grape, would do such a thing without a loaded and cocked gun placed at their head.

Wyclef DISQUALIFIED In Bid For President Of Haiti

Wyclef Jean Haiti Disqualified  “There’s got to be a bad song I can get out of this. I got it! I’ll call it, ‘Haiti Got No Love For The Clef.’ Yeah, and I’ll get Sean Penn, P. Diddy, Justin Bieber and Rhianna for the video. Then, I’ll donate the proceeds, well, at least some of them, to my charity.”

RUT-ROH – BROKE LATE LAST NIGHT – “RNC has just $5m for final push,” by Jonathan Martin: The RNC “has just over $5 million in the bank for the final stretch of the 2010 mid-term election campaign, according to an unannounced filing with the FEC disclosed Friday night. The report also indicates that the national party headed by embattled chairman Michael Steele is carrying just over $2 million in debt. … It indicated that the committee brought in slightly more than $5.5 million in July – less than half of what the DNC raised – while spending $11 million. The RNC’s money woes have many party leaders and operatives deeply worried about whether the GOP will be able to take full advantage of an otherwise promising election cycle. Of most concern are get-out- the-vote activities that are typically funded by the national committee. … The DNC released its July fundraising numbers earlier this week, reporting that it had just over $10.8 million on hand while also carrying $3.5 million in debt.

–“The RNC’s struggles come as other Republican committees show signs of momentum. The National Republican Congressional Committee outraised its counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, $8.5 million to $6.2 million in July. The DCCC, however, has just under $36 million in the bank while the NRCC has about $22 million. The National Republican Senatorial Committee appears to be closing the cash gap on its Democratic counterpart, raising $4.2 million to the Democratic committee’s $4.4 million in July. These committees each have more than $20 million heading into the fall. Meantime, the Republican Governors Association has about $40 million to spend on the fall elections, significantly more than its Democratic counterpart. http://bit.ly/d0WQNj

Good Saturday morning. WHAT THE PRESIDENT IS READING – POLITICO’s Karin Tanabe: “With the web atwitter with news … that President Obama had purchased Jonathan Franzen’s new novel, ‘Freedom,’ … POLITICO began to wonder how, exactly, POTUS was able to get his hands on a book that isn’t being released until Aug. 31. Turns out Obama … was given an advance reading copy by the folks at the Bunch of Grapes bookstore … ‘We as book sellers get advanced reading copies, and we had an ARC. We had it in our back room and gave it to him as a gift,’ said store employee Katie Hakala. … According to Hakala, he purchased the Pulitzer Prize-winning ‘Tinkers’ by Paul Harding. Store employee Leroy Hazelton also noted that Obama bought Brad Leithauser’s ‘A Few Corrections,’ too, after Hazelton recommended it … Jayna Richardson of Kramerbooks & Afterwords in Washington said that ‘Freedom’ — and the other books Obama and family picked up today — will definitely get a sales boost. ‘Last summer, when he was reading four or five books on vacation, sales of all those shot through the roof.’”

AP’s Mark S. Smith and Glen Johnson: “For the girls, the president bought … ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee and ‘The Red Pony’ by John Steinbeck.”

RANDOM THOUGHTS

I’ll bet you dollars to donuts that the people who say they think President Obama is a Muslim were the very same ones calling for him to denounce Rev Wright as his pastor two years ago.

Did you know that the president’s “low approval ratings” are higher at the same point in his presidency than those of both Reagan and Clinton, both of whom served two full terms in office?

As soon I heard that the fugitive just captured in Arizona was with his cousin who’s also his fiancée, I knew he was a white guy. You know, like when the news came out that a caretaker had been killed by a grizzly bear at a private “zoo” in Ohio. Hell, that’s a job that not even the most desperate illegal immigrant would take – “No senor, I not that crazy or hungry.”

Hell, Wyclef couldn’t even get the Fugees back together, so why did he think he was qualified to be president of Haiti? Now he can get back to doing what he’s done best in recent years: making terrible records (except the one with Shakira) – maybe he can get Sean Penn to be in the video – and not paying his taxes in the USA.

Once I saw the dismal July fundraising numbers for the RNC (see in News above), I fully understood why the party’s number one “token”, MC Michael Steele has been so quiet the last few weeks.

I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to feel a little sorry for Dr Laura. All she was trying to do was point out what a horrible injustice it was that Black people get to say the n-word and white people don’t and now she’s being forced to reclaim her 1st Amendment Rights by quitting her radio show at the end of the year. I guess it’s true: it’s hard out here for a n-word loving racist.

Mariah Carey on American Idol could get me to watch that show. She’s wayyy more talented and knowledgeable about singing than Paula Abdul could ever dream of being and the possibility for goofy, diva-ish behavior would be off the charts. And let’s be frank about this: Simon was as much a diva as anyone could ever be on that show and the interplay between Steven Tyler and Mariah would be so insane that Randy Jackson would have to literally bark like a “dawg” to be heard.

I tell you what would have been flat-out hee-la-ri-ous: if HBO had asked Antonio Cromartie to match the mothers’ names to his kids’. I’m guessing that he’d still be sitting there – “Mmm, let’s see, I’m pretty sure one of their names is La-something or other.” Or this…

Moderator: Antonio, spell the word “condom”.

Cromartie: Condom? Can you use it in a sentence?

Moderator: Sure. “Con-dom”. I used a condom so I wouldn’t get my girlfriend pregnant.

Cromartie: Ummm. I’m not sure I understand.

Moderator: Just spell the word.

Cromartie: I’ll try but I’m not promising anything. Let’s see. C. O. N… Sh**, all this thinking about getting a girl pregnant is making me hot and bothered.

For those of you out there hoping that A-Rod breaks Barry Bonds’ career HR record, you might want to take notice of how his body is starting to break down. Which is exactly why many thought it was stupid of the Yankees to sign him to a ten-year contract two years ago.
