“Well, would you like your right to free speech? Would you like Fox’s right to free press put up to a vote and say well, if five states approved it, let’s wait till the other 45 states do? These are fundament constitutional rights. The Bill of Rights guarantees Fox News and you, Chris Wallace, the right to speak. It’s in the constitution. And the Supreme Court has repeatedly held that the denial of our citizens of the equal rights to equal access to justice under the law, is a violation of our fundamental rights. Yes, it’s encouraging that many states are moving towards equality on the basis of sexual orientation, and I’m very, very pleased about that. … We can’t wait for the voters to decide that that immeasurable harm, that is unconstitutional, must be eliminated.” – Ted Olsen, the conservative lawyer who represented President Bush in Bush v. Gore, when FOX News Sunday host Chris Wallace asked Olson to identify the right to same-sex marriage in the constitution and wondered why “seven million Californians” “don’t get to say that marriage is between a man and a woman.” To watch the entire conversation, click on: Wonk Room » Ted Olson On FNS: ‘Would You Like Fox’s Right To Free Press Put Up To A Vote?’

“I have not violated any House rules. Therefore, I simply will not be forced to admit to something that I did not do, and instead have chosen to respond to charges made by the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct in a public hearing.” – Congresswoman Maxine Waters on the ethics charges that she intervened with federal regulators on behalf of a bank in which she and her husband had substantial investments, and where her husband once served on the board of directors.

From Poltico Playbook: COMING ATTRACTIONS – A Democratic official: “Mike Pence (R-IN) is hosting a job fair on August 10th. Going through the first 16 employers listed as participants, we found that 9 of them are recipients of Recovery Act support. As you know, Pence is appearing on ‘Meet the Press’ and my money is on him calling the Recovery Act a failure. If the Recovery Act was such a failure, Pence should have to disinvite these employers. Look for Dems to have some fun with this!” Employers Attending 2010 Job Fair

The unifying GOP theme is a total lack of faith in and respect for President Obama and they’re not even trying to disguise it as policy differences anymore. They don’t like him or the fact that he’s the president. It’s really just that simple.

I’m against extremists, whether they be on the left or the right.

I’m still chuckling at former senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania for saying recently that he’s “mulling over a run for the presidency.” Yeah, and I’m mulling a run for Grand Dragon of the Klu Klux Klan and I bet I’ve got a better chance of winning that than old Ricky does of being the GOP’s nominee in 2012. Or ever.

I’ll bet anything I don’t own that Democrats are grateful that the midterm elections are this fall and weren’t last year after the anger-filled scream fests that doubled as “town hall meetings”.

Is there a chance that the whole so-called Tea Party “movement” isn’t as big as some in the media would like us to believe and that it’s already on the wane?

I know that same-sex marriage isn’t a popular subject in the African-American community particularly among older people and those who attend church on a regular basis. And while I disagree with them, I understand and respect their position. But, in my opinion, Ted Olsen presents THE case for same sex marriage in that it’s a Civil Rights issue and many African-Americans need to accept that Civil Rights go far beyond the color of one’s skin and ethnicity. As for the argument that allowing gays and lesbians to marry will destroy the institution of marriage, I say that it’s heterosexuals like Liz Taylor and Larry King who have a total of FIFTEEN marriages between them who have done that over the years along with a divorce rate of over 50%.

I’ve heard some chilling 911 calls on the news over the years but the matter-of-fact tone in the voice of Omar Thorton as he reported that he’d shot and killed 8 people at a Connecticut beer distributorship and why he did what he did, scared the hell out of me.

Some people that I trust 1000% have told me that the troubling disclosures about city officials outlandish paychecks in Bell, CA are just the beginning and that the City of Compton will be next not because of outrageous salaries and benefit packages but illegal contracts and deals. Supposedly, complaints have been filed with both state and federal authorities, demanding investigations.

I don’t know what’s worse: Montana Fishburne doing porn or her trying to explain why she’s doing it Montana Fishburne: Up, Close & Extremely Personal – Entertainment Newswire | Black Voices . Either way, I’m pretty sure her parents wishes she would stop doing both.

If there’s a creepier TV ad than the one where the two little girls give their father a box of Just For Men hair coloring (I’m still wondering where they got the money for it but I digress) so he can start dating again – is he divorced, a widower? – I don’t want to see it. And I haven’t even mentioned that when he sends a picture of his date to their cell phone, the girls high-five like they’re happy that good old dad might “get some” that night. Oh, did I point out that it looks like these two girls, 13 and under, appear to be at home by themselves while Daddy’s out on the prowl?

I wonder how long it will take for Rosie O’Donnell to say or do something that brings shame to the Oprah Winfrey Network where she’ll have a new talk show next spring.

It might not be their best song but September is definitely Earth, Wind & Fire’s best sounding one.

While watching the Red Sox/Yankees game Saturday, I saw something I’d never seen in my 45+ years of watching major league baseball: Yankees pitcher Andy Pettite – currently on the disabled list – was shown in the dugout with his sunglass perched above the bill of his cap (the usual spot for many players) while wearing a second pair! After I recovered from the shock of what I’d seen, I had to admit that was some straight-up SWAGGER-LICIOUS sh*t on Pettite’s part. Play on playa.

Derek Jeter is looking every bit of 35 in his face and on is head these days.

Try as I might, I can’t imagine the New York Yankees holding monthly Flea Markets at Yankee Stadium as  the Dodgers are now doing.

Reports have Shaquille O’Neal looking for a new nickname now that’s he’s signed with the Boston Celtics. How about “The Big Diminished”?

Now that he’s been cut by the Timberwolves after being traded from the Cavaliers a few weeks ago, Delonte West aka “The Human Tattoo”, just might need Gloria James’ loving more than ever before. Allegedly of course.

All joking aside, exactly what does Isiah Thomas have on James Dolan and the Knicks?

Laker fans everywhere should thank their lucky stars or whichever deity they pray to that Jerry Buss never remarried and that his kids, particularly Jeannie and Jim, know what the hell they’re doing because Jamie and Frank McCourt’s divorce case could negatively affect the Dodgers far beyond the current season.

Why I Can’t Take The WNBA Seriously – Before Friday’s game, the LA Sparks had a season record of 9-17 and with eight games left in the season, were a half game out of a playoff spot.

To paraphrase Sarah Palin from the 2008 campaign, maybe Tiger Woods needs to start “palling around” with skanks again.

More Tiger: we won’t know for certain for a few more years, but it’s looking more and more that Tiger Woods had the most expensive one-vehicle accident in history.

I don’t care what the folks at NBC News/Sports are saying but there’s no way on God’s green earth that they were going to go through this election cycle with the always controversial Keith Olberman on “Sunday Night Football In America”.Montana Fishburne: Up, Close & Extremely Personal – Entertainment Newswire | Black VoicesMontana Fishburne: Up, Close & Extremely Personal – Entertainment Newswire | Black Voices

What if, as Melvin Udall said, (and I’m paraphrasing just a bit here), “This is as good as it gets”?

Stay classy Garret Anderson.
